Patient advocacy group Patient Voice Aotearoa is staging a series of public meetings across the North Island to talk about the state of the New Zealand health care system.
The group is making an open invitation to local mayors, iwi leaders and the community to come along and talk about the state of our health system and – most importantly – look to find solutions.
Patient Voice Aotearoa will also be inviting those who attend to sign the Buller Declaration. The Declaration toured the South Island in the second half of 2024.
The Declaration asserts:
- Aotearoa New Zealand’s health system is in a state of crisis.
- The Government must act urgently to address that crisis.
- Rural, Māori and low-income populations are disproportionately impacted by the crisis.
- The Government must act urgently to meet its obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and protect Māori health, in consultation with iwi and hapū.
- The Government must allocate additional resources to train, recruit and retain more nurses, doctors and specialists.
A culmination of all the signatures will be presented at Parliament on 18 November 2025.
