The health system as it stands perpetuates unequal outcomes and is not accessible to a growing number of New Zealanders. Addressing unmet need is critical for achieving health equity.
This Health Matters publication proposes ways to address these through:
• removing barriers to health care in the community and hospitals, such as user charges.
• a much stronger commitment from government to address the well-known determinants of ill health, many of which lie outside the health system.
